I have, like many others, every December 31st sat down with pen and paper and written out a set of goals for the coming year, inevitably a weight loss goal would be on there, always wanting to get to my healthy BMI.

Every year I would write down my current weight (usually a kg or two higher than the previous year’s start weight!) and every year I would start the New Year with a BANG and go into a new weight loss plan that I would stick to for a month or so and lose 5-10 kg, only to put the weight straight back on a few short months later.

Some years when I added up all the lots of 5kg I’d lost it added up to 20-30kg over the course of a year! January I’d lose 5kg only to have it right back on there after Easter, so I’d lose another 5kg in May, then by July I would be 6kg heavier! September would be approaching with the promise of sunshine and swimming weather so back I’d go and lose those same pesky 5kg! A holiday in October and back those kilos came, November I’d lose them only to gain them back over the Christmas party season! Around I’d go year after year.

I really was on that dreaded yo-yo weight loss cycle. With Suzi’s help what I have discovered is that success is more about winning the mental game than about diet and exercise plans.

Suzi is not afraid to challenge me to look at myself and the excuses I have used in the past when not achieving my goals, helping me to own the choices I have made and making wiser ones moving forward.

I have read many self-improvement books over the years and whilst each has been enlightening in some way, having someone alongside me to encourage me and help me choose what I will apply to myself has been invaluable.  Seeing results feels fantastic!

I have struggled for over 20 years trying every supposedly “proven” way to lose weight.

I would make continual promises to myself to change and then break them.  It was very disheartening.

There is only so many times you can try the same thing expecting a different result. It’s not only insane but also exhausting, both physically and mentally.

Many plans give advice on what to eat, when to eat and how to exercise – an integral part of losing weight.  But nothing got to the bottom of why I was overweight in the first place or why I could not sustain lasting change.
